Dan Hellie is an anchor and reporter for News4 Sports. He also hosts Sports Final and Redskins Showtime on NBC4 and Capital Games on NBC Washington Nonstop.
Hellie has deep roots in the Washington area. He was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he played football, baseball, and basketball for Magruder High School. He met his wife Anne at Magruder, and they have two children.
Hellie was born in the Philippines where his parents were serving in the Peace Corps. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and landed his first broadcasting job in Alexandria, Minnesota. Following that, he worked in Florence, South Carolina, West Palm Beach, Florida, and Orlando, where he anchored the 6:00pm and 11:00pm newscasts weekdays and hosted SportsNight 9 on Sunday nights. In 2005, Hellie was named AP Sportscaster of the Year in Florida.
He and his family live in Montgomery County.
