Neighbors don’t want any part of it so police are calling in the pork posse in Anne Arundel County, Md.
Two pot-bellied pigs have been spotted in an industrial park at Hammonds Ferry Road in Linthicum. The pigs seem to be making themselves at home in a patch of woods next to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, the Capital newspaper reported.
The black pigs weigh as much as 100 pounds each but are apparently quite spry. So far they have eluded capture, and no area residents have agreed to set up traps, so the Maryland Department of Natural Resources was consulted.
A DNR biologist saw the pigs and determined they were not feral and did not present an ecological danger. So now county animal control officers are on the lookout for the portly pair.
The pigs are probably former pets that outgrew their welcome, according to DNR officials.
“People get these things all the time because they think they’re cute,” Jonathan McKnight, associate director of habitat for the DNR, told the Capital. “But then they get bigger and people realize, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got a pig in my house.”
