A 9-year-old suburban Detroit girl pulled over while driving her drunk dad home was doing a pretty good job by all accounts.
Cops in Brownstown got a call from a witness who saw the girl pulling a van out of a gas station at 3 a.m. Saturday, according to msnbc.com.
“A 7-year-old is driving it and her dad is drunk and he's in the passenger side,” the caller told a 911 dispatcher as he followed the van down West Road in the small community of Brownstown Township.
“She’s got her turn signal on," he continued. "She’s turning right. She’s driving pretty good, I’m telling you, I can’t believe it."
The kid turned out to be 9, and when police pulled her over, she was sitting up on a booster seat behind the wheel.
“She looks at the uniformed police officer, and says ‘What did you stop me for? I was driving good,’" Detective Lt. Robert Grant said. "Absolutely incredible.”
The child, who was not identified, told police that her father had been drinking all night when he decided to take them out for a drive, police said. He later asked the girl to drive.
The dad, identified as Weimer Shawn Russell, 39, was charged with two counts of child abuse, one a felony and the other a misdemeanor.
