Man Donates $1 Million Taxidermy Collection to Virginia Museum

A New York man has donated more than 230 items from his taxidermy collection to the Virginia Museum of Natural History.

Gregory Speck's collection, which he kept in his Manhattan apartment, has been valued at more than $1 million, The Martinsville Bulletin reported.

Museum spokesman Zach Ryder said that Speck, who is moving to Harrisonburg to be near family members, chose the museum in Martinsville, in southern Virginia, because of its ability to properly care for, store and display the items.

Ryder says the mounts range from bison to wolves to waterfowl.
