Las Vegas Officers Dress as Leprechauns

Fines start at $190 in police effort to make crosswalks safer

Las Vegas drivers that fail to yield to pedestrians should expect to get a ticket of at least $190 today -- from a leprechaun.

Ahead of St. Patrick's day this weekend, police officers were dressed as leprechauns and manning crosswalks, Fox 5 Vegas reported.

Police were also targeting jaywalkers, UNLV Safe Community Partnership chief Erin Breen told The Associated Press.

With pedestrian deaths up 50 percent in Clark County so far this year, according to Breen, authorities in Vegas continue to test innovative ways to expose unsafe drivers.

In November, police officers dressed up as turkeys. The next month they donned beards and hats as jolly old Saint Nick.
