  • Vampirese. City Speak. Huttese. There are all languages that made the best-of list compiled by Wired. A well constructed (and geeky) fake language is almost necessity in sci-fi writing these days. But Klingon is perhaps the most fully realized sci-fi language with a complete grammar and vocabulary. There are translations of Shakespeare in the language and Google even allows users to chose it as their language of choice. See what others made the list.
     
  • The Italian island of Capri's famous Blue Grotto has been flooded with raw sewage -- reportedly dumped there by the Naples mafia. Two men were busted for using the pristine grotto -- known for its crystal teal waters and striking cave rocks -- as a dumping ground for 5,000 gallons of sewage to avoid disposal fees. 
     
  • Harry Potter may have made pet owls popular -- but once the magic fades, many pet-owners simply dump the creatures. The trend of abandonment has gotten so bad that an owl sanctuary was forced to open in England to care for all the rejected nocturnal birds, many of whom are starving or malnourished when the arrive.
     
  • City streets are going dark. Many cities and towns around the country are choosing to shut off street lights at night as a cost-cutting measure and in an attempt to reduce carbon footprints.
