Hair Weave Thefts in Greenbelt

Police in Greenbelt are investigating a bizarre burglary -- someone is stealing hair weaves.

John Terry and Jerome Reid own Her Imports. They say someone stole $23,000 worth of hair extensions last Thursday.

The theft comes at an especially bad time during the holiday season. They now have a sign on the door of their business informing would-be customers they're out of hair.

"I'm turning people away -- literally, like dozens a day," said Terry. "It's just frustrating, because it doesn't put us out of business, but it slows us down."

Salons buy the hair from Terry and Reid and use it on customers who want extensions. The theft "makes you feel really, really, really angry," one salon customer said.

Reid and Terry say this is the fourth time this has happened in six months.

After the third robbery, the men installed a surveillance system. They posted a photo on Instagram of two women they think stole the hair. Police are following up on the leads.

"I'm very angry about this," Reid said. "I work very hard for what I do."
