Woman Uses Twin's ID to Open Credit Card Accounts, Spends $12K: Police

A 28-year-old Long Island woman allegedly used her twin sister's Social Security number to open several credit cards — and then charged more than $12,000 on them, state police said.

Troopers say the sister of Kimberlee LaClaire, of Port Washington, contacted them and reported that her twin had opened credit card and other accounts in her name over the past year.

State police investigators picked up LaClaire when she met with her probation officer Tuesday afternoon.

She was brought upstate to the Ulster County town of New Paltz, where she was arraigned on charges of identity theft and grand larceny. She was sent to the county jail on $10,000 bail.

Attorney information for LaClaire wasn't immediately available.
