German Celebrity Bunny “Til” Accidentally Killed by Cameraman

The 17-day-old rabbit was to be presented at a news conference when disaster struck.

A 17-day-old rabbit famous across Germany for having no ears reportedly met its untimely demise Wednesday when a cameraman took one fateful step backward.

"Til," a rising star on Germany’s celebrity animal scene, was to be shown off at a news conference when the disaster struck, The Associated Press reported.

Uwe Dempewolf, zoo director for the Limbach-Oberfrohna in Saxony told Spiegel magazine that while filming a cameraman "took a step back and trod on the bunny.”

“No one could have forseen this," he said. "Everyone here is upset. The cameraman was distraught.”

According to Dempewolf, the cameraman didn’t realize he stepped on Til, because the bunny had buried himself in hay.

“He was immediately dead,” Dempewolf said. "It was a direct hit.”

Zoo officials plan to freeze Til’s body while they decide whether to have him stuffed.
