Touring Virginia? There's an App for That

Virginia Tourism App Puts Travel at Your Fingertips

You know when you want to try that hot new sushi restaurant in Clarendon and you can’t remember the name of the place or where it is. Now, with the touch of a button, you could have reservations for the next night.

There’s a new iPhone app that lets you access information about more than 12,000 restaurants, hotels, attractions and special events in Virginia. The new electronic tour guide is available for free at the iTunes app store for iPhones and iPads. The Virginia Tourism Corporation said it is the first statewide mobile travel guide of its kind.

The Virginia is for Lovers app includes a feature called "Near Me," which allows users to find all attractions in a 15-mile radius. It also provides directions and maps for every listing, direct access to make reservations, and customer reviews. Tourism officials hope the new app will encourage people to visit Virginia and then extend their trips while exploring all the tastes and sites featured in the guide.

Tourism generates $19.2 billion in revenue for Virginia, supports more than 200,000 jobs and provides $1.28 billion in state and local taxes.

Next stop, Greek food.
