“Acts of Lust” Prompt Comic-Con Apology

Racy video game promotion at convention has Electronic Arts apologizing

A promotion put on by Redwood Shores-based video game publisher Electronic Arts for the game Dante's Inferno seemed to asked gamers to harass "booth babes" at the Comic-Con convention in San Diego last week.

"Booth babes" are the comely company representatives who staff tables at the annual nerd gathering, often chosen for their appearance in order to attract conventioneers.

The "Sin to Win" prize promised a "sinful night with two hot girls," and all that implies.

The contest came under fire for being sexist, and Electronic Arts clarified that the "acts of lust" demanded of contestants were meant to be harmless photos of attendees and game representatives.

Recognizing that not every gamer is necessarily attracted to the female of the species, the second-place prize went to a writer for the site GayGamer.net, who took a picture with a "Booth Bear."

It certainly seems odd that the second-place prize was randomly given to a critic of the contest who doesn't exactly lust after women.

Maybe some hot lesbian action would have been more appropriate?

Jackson West was discourage from playing Donkey Kong as a child because of the plot hinged on the rescue of a supposedly helpless damsel.
