The Washington Redskins, desperate for help in the backfield, have claimed Tashard Choice off of waivers from the rival Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Choice was waived by the Cowboys Saturday -- ending an unproductive and injury-filled career in Dallas. He still has injuries he's dealing with, and there's no guarantee he'll actually sign with the Skins.
The Redskins have plenty of injury woes of their own at running back, and appear willing to give Choice a chance -- if for no other reason than to help block in order to keep Redskins' QBs off the ground.
The Buffalo Bills sacked John Beck nine times Sunday, and with the Redskins' offensive line banged up, coach Mike Shanahan needs to find someone -- anyone -- who can put a body on a rushing defender in order to give Beck time to throw.
If Choice can block, that's a step in the right direction. If he can help out in any way, shape or form with the ball tucked under his arm, even better. Ryan Torain rushed just eight times for 14 yards on Sunday. No other back attempted a carry. Tim Hightower is done for the year. Torain hasn't found the success he had at the end of last season. The team apparently doesn't have confidence in Roy Helu, who didn't get a carry on Sunday. And by picking up Choice, the Skins' apparently doesn't feel Evan Royster is ready to come up from the practice squad.
So for now, the Redskins were forced to go to the waiver wire to add a back. What they found was an under-performing, injury-prone running back.
In other words -- more of the same.
