Beck Benched; Rex Starts Against Miami

Grossman gets the start

Just when you thought John Beck was going to get the chance to beat his former team -- and win his first game in the NFL -- word came out Sunday morning that he was sent back to the bench in favor of Rex Grossman.

The NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reported Sunday morning that Grossman would start against the 1-7 Dolphins, and that head coach Mike Shanahan told the team of the switch earlier in the weekend.

And sure enough, it was Grossman who was under center on the Redskins' first possession in Miami.  The Redskins went three-and-out on the drive, and Grossman was sacked on third down.

The Redskins were behind 10-6 at the half.  Early in the third quarter Grossman's stat line read: 12 of 15 for 128 yards and an interception.

Beck took over from Grossman after a turnover-filled performance in Week 5 against Philadelphia. The Redskins were 3-2 with Grossman in charge, but have gone 0-3 since Beck got the starting nod. Injuries have taken a toll on the offense, leaving Beck little to work with, but scoring chances have been few and far between during the Beck era.

Beck began his career with Miami before being traded to Washington last year.
