Will Leonsis Score Again?

Capitals owner in talks to become new Wizards owner

Could Ted Leonsis bring some magic to the Washington Wizards?

According to The Washington Post, the Washington Capitals owner has until Wednesday to negotiate a deal to buy the team from the estate of late owner Abe Pollin. The deal could also give Leonsis and his group of investors ownership of Verizon Center.

Leonsis bought the Capitals from Pollin in 1999. He’s turned the once-mediocre franchise into one of the hottest teams in Washington -- which is quite impressive, considering Washington is not known as a hockey town.

The question is: Would he be able to make Washington excited about the Wizards again?

Even if that deadline passes, the two sides could agree to continue negotiations. Otherwise, the Wizards and Verizon Center would be appraised, and Leonsis would have another opportunity to reach a deal.
