WBJ Report: New Name for Verizon Center Building

According to a published report, the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C., could be getting a new name.

The Washington Business Journal reported Domain Name Wire found 50 registered web domain names that are tied to Capital One. They reported the move indicated the banking giant could be close to a naming rights deal for the Verizon Center.

Capital One or Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns the 20,000-seat home of the Washington Wizards and Capitals, have not confirmed any information about a new naming deal. The current naming deal is scheduled to end in 2018.

The Washington Business Journal reported experts have estimated Monumental could get around $5 million a year for the downtown arena, and the organization was seeking a 10- to 15-year deal.
