The worst of seasons was the best of seasons for Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell -- so far.
Statistically, Campbell has never been better, with careers highs in passing yards (3,678), touchdown throws (20) and quarterback rating (86.4) in 2009. But the team stumbled to a 4-12 record as Campbell was sacked 43 times and found himself on the ground many times more.
"Sometimes you've gotta go through a really, really bad time in order to get to the great times, and I think that's what happened to us this year," Campbell told News4's Lindsay Czarniak. "We went through a really, really bad time, and I think better things are ahead for us."
Despite ongoing speculation about Campbell's future with the team, the quarterback said he is stress free and anxious to succeed with new head coach Mike Shanahan.
"He's a coach that wants to make you better," Campbell said. "He wants to help you take the game to another level, help you to become a great player."
Through college and the pros, Campbell has played in a new offensive system almost every season. Last off-season, replacement rumors (Jay Cutler? Mark Sanchez?) were plentiful, but Campbell told Czarniak that the past is the past and he is only concerned with moving forward.
Forward could be with the Redskins or somewhere else. Pending free agency means the questions about Campbell's future linger.

But whether or not he has them with the Skins, Campbell insists his best seasons have yet to come.
