Suspended UMd. Players Accused of Firing Airsoft BB Guns at Students

Two University of Maryland football players who were suspended from the team earlier this month have been charged with shooting three students with airsoft BB guns on campus.

Standout running back Lorenzo Harrison and receiver DJ Turner have been charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and threatening bodily harm.

Harrison and Turner have been suspended indefinitely from the team for violating the school's student-athlete code of conduct.

Earlier this month, three students reported they were shot by a BB gun while walking on campus. All of the incidents happened within an hour of each other.

According to charging documents, two airsoft BB guns that look like AK-47s were found in Harrison's backpack, along with six containers of BB pellets.

"We are aware of the situation and take these matters very seriously," the University of Maryland Athletics Department said in a statement Wednesday. "This matter has also been referred to the Office of Student Conduct for further review."

Harrison, a 5-foot-8 freshman, leads Maryland with five rushing touchdowns. He has run for 664 yards and averages 7.2 yards per attempt.

Turner has two catches for 19 yards, and Brooks has four tackles in four games.
