Redskins Ready To Go Vs. Dolphins; QB Situation Settled?

Less than 24 hours before the opening kickoff on the Redskins season, it appears the quarterback situation has been settled. But what will it take to beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday?

Redskins President Bruce Allen told WTOP that quarterback Robert Griffin III has been medically cleared and will be on the sideline for the season opener on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Griffin was injured during a pre-season game and was listed third on the depth chart. NFL Network reporter Jeff Darlington said Griffin stay as the third-string quarterback for the game against the Miami Dolphins. Colt McCoy will be the Redskins' number two quarterback, according to Darlington.

“Robert has been cleared to play from the concussion,” Allen said on WTOP on Friday morning. “We got the documentation (Thursday) night.”

"We have until Sunday afternoon to turn in our 46-man roster, and we're going to do that with everybody," head coach Jay Gruden said Friday.

Griffin last played in a pre-season game against the Baltimore Ravens but has been working out and practicing with the team. At the time, Gruden said Griffin did not lose his starting position because of the injury, but he lost it due to Cousins’ performance.

The Redskins will open the 2015 season at home against Dolphins on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.

Rich Tandler, the Redskins blogger for CSN Mid-Atlantic, said this is probably a winnable game for Washington, even though Miami is probably the better team. He thinks defense will dominate the game, but a deep pass or two to wide receiver DeSean Jackson could turn the tide in the Redskins’ favor.

“But the Redskins aren’t ready to win a game like this,” Tandler said. “The matchup reminds me of the Redskins playing the Texans a year ago. They didn’t play horribly but Houston had a dominant defensive lineman in J.J. Watt who disrupted things just enough and Washington made just enough mistakes (giving up a blocked punt and a block extra point and losing two fumbles in Houston territory) to lose. I am not yet convinced that the Redskins are immune from such gaffes.”

Tandler said running back Matt Jones could also do well catching passes out of the backfield, slowing down the rush of the Dolphins.

However, Tandler is predicting a 24-17 win for the Dolphins.
