Redskins GM Scot McCloughan Fired, Team President Says

The Washington Redskins have fired General Manager Scot McCloughan, the team confirmed to News4.

"The Washington Redskins have released Scot McCloughan from the organization effective immediately. We wish him success in his future endeavors. The team will have no further comment on his departure. The organization remains confident in our personnel department as we execute our free agency plans as well as prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft," said Redskins President Bruce Allen.

Rumors of a replacement for McCloughan were swirling at the Senior Bowl.

One source, who spends a lot of time at Redskins Park, insisted it wasn't about drinking, but he "wasn't surprised by the rumors based on his past."

"(Team President) Bruce (Allen) needs a yes man," he said.

Before taking the job, McCloughan opened up to ESPN about his alcohol abuse in December 2014.
