Nationals Among Favorites to Land Free Agent Prince Fielder

Chance of Prince in Washington

One of baseball’s most top free agents may be heading to Washington. The Nationals are reportedly among the top candidates to land first baseman Prince Fielder. In fact, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Nats are the favorite to sign the slugger.

Reports of the Nationals’ interest in Fielder are just another sign that the team is serious about improving – and improving quickly. They traded for left handed starter Gio Gonzalez last month to improve their rotation (which will most likely include Stephen Strasburg). Prospect Bryce Harper may also see some time in Washington in 2012.

Many scouts and analysts have called Prince Fielder the top free agent on the market this year – even more attractive than fellow first baseman Albert Pujols. The 27-year-old Fielder hit .299 last season, with 38 homeruns.
