A New York Giants fan has purchased the unregistered domain name TheWashingtonRedskins.com, which redirects everyone who visits to the Giants' homepage.
After hearing about a federal ruling canceling the Redskins' trademark registrations, Todd Remmel searched Redskins-related domains available for purchase, The Washington Post said. He found this domain name was unregistered.
"It was one of those things, as a Giants fan, I was thinking, if these guys are silly enough not to own a top-level domain, I have to do something funny with it," Remmel told The Washington Post. "I didn’t think of it as an investment when I bought it. If I wasn’t a football fan, I wouldn’t have done it."
Remmel owns 150 other domains and loves to use the domain as a humorous prank on his Redskin-fan friends.
He told The Washington Post that if he ever decides to sell the domain, he would donate some of the proceeds to charity.
