Mount St. Mary's Defeats American 57-52

Jeremy Goode scored 22 of his career-high 29 points in the second half and Mount St. Mary's, Md., won at American for the first time in 43 years, 57-52 on Monday night.

The Mount (3-2) trailed by as many as nine in the first half, scoring just two points through the first 9 1/2 minutes. The Mount took a 49-39 lead with 4:31 remaining when Goode capped a 7-0 run with a 3-pointer and a transition layup.

American (4-3) went on an 11-3 run while The Mount went more than four minutes without a field goal and cut the deficit to 52-50 with 33 seconds left on Derrick Mercer's two free throws. The Eagles had a chance to tie the game with 20 seconds remaining, but Nick Hendra threw away a short inbounds pass. The Mount made four foul shots to seal the win.

Brian Gilmore scored 15 to lead American.
