Marine Corps Marathon Lottery Opens Wednesday

The race is still seven months away, but the time to register is coming up soon

The lottery to enter the 42nd annual Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) opens Wednesday.

Registration for the Oct. 22 marathon is available through the lottery, which opens seven months before the race begins. From noon Wednesday to noon on March 29, the lottery will be open for runners ages 14 or older.

There is no fee to enter the lottery, but for those who are selected, the fee is $160 to complete race registration.

Runners will be notified March 30 about their 2017 registration statuses. If a runner is not able to participate, the marathon allows the runner to transfer the registration to someone else who is not already registered, for a $50 fee.

Runners may also defer their registration for next year, guaranteeing an entry and avoiding the lottery process. There is an $80 fee for this and has limited availability.

If you don't make it into the lottery, there are MCM Charity Partner organizations that offer guaranteed access to the MCM for those who want to dedicate participation to a certain cause. Contact MCM Charity Partners directly to learn more about these programs.

If running is not your thing, a wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available for various jobs throughout the event weekend.
