Suitland High School football coach and athletic director Nick Lynch died early Wednesday morning in a two-car crash in Prince George's County, according to the Washington Post.

Police said Lynch was headed south on Branch Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. and tried to make a left turn onto Brandywine Road when his car was struck by another vehicle, the Post reported. Lynch was transported to local hospital, where he died, police told the paper.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken leg. Both cars were totaled, according to the Post.

Lynch, 43, was the coach at Suitland since 1996. He guided the Rams to state championships in 2004 and 2006. Suitland also made it to the state finals in 1997 and 1998.

Lynch graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High in Greenbelt and played wide receiver at East Tennessee State.

Lynch's family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at noon at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland.
