Haynesworth Unlikely to Start Against Dallas: Sources

Playing 49 of 55 defensive snaps Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals apparently wasn't enough to get Albert Haynesworth into the Redskins' starting lineup for the season opener.

He also needed to play them well.

Two team sources described Haynesworth's performance in the 20-10 loss as "awful," The Washington Post reported Sunday. He appeared to give little effort and failed to adapt to the new 3-4 defensive scheme.

At practice Saturday, Haynesworth played little, a source told The Post. Several sources said it is unlikely he will start when the Redskins host the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. There have been rumors Haynesworth could be benched entirely on Sunday.

Shanahan said Haynesworth played Thursday -- while starters rested -- because he needs to get in football shape. Haynesworth has missed most of practice for failing to pass a conditioning test as well as injuries. That followed an offseason in which he blew off the team's workouts and a mandatory minicamp because he doesn't want to play nose tackle in the new scheme.

Haynesworth took snaps only with the backups during the 20 minutes reporters were allowed to observe practice Monday, the Associated Press reported.
