Going To the Winter Classic? Take Your Skates

If you’re heading up to Pittsburgh for the Winter Classic, you may want to take your skates.

Besides the game on New Year’s Day, there will be some opportunities for fans to lace ‘em up in advance of the big day.
There will be public skating on a rink in a parking lot adjacent to Heinz Field each day from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1.

The rink will be built in the "Stage AE" parking lot and will open for public skating from 3-9 p.m. on Christmas Eve -- including a “Skate With Santa” that day from 4-6 p.m.

The cost for public skating is $7 per session, and skate rental is $3.

Crews will start building the rink after Sunday’s Steelers game.
The Capitals won’t be the only D.C. team playing in Pittsburgh. The Washington Junior Capitals will compete in an international bantam tourney during the week. They’ll face some good competition, too. Not only will they take on a Pittsburgh team, but they’ll face off against a team from Sidney Crosby’s hometown of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and one from Evgeni Malkin’s hometown of Magnitogorsk in Russia.
