Friday Night Lights (Go Out): Yankees, Red Sox Delayed in 12th

After both teams left the field to boos, the lights came back on and play resumed following a 16-minute delay.

The game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has been delayed in the bottom of the 12th inning because several banks of lights went out at Yankee Stadium.

After both teams left the field to boos, the lights came back on and play resumed following a 16-minute delay.

The Yankees say they believe there was a power surge throughout the building. The team turned on additional light banks that are normally off above the foul poles as electricians rebooted the lights that went out.

The score was tied 3-all Friday night when the lights dimmed as Boston reliever Tommy Layne released the first pitch of the inning to Carlos Beltran. Fans groaned and umpires huddled with both managers before going underneath the stands to get information.

It appeared nine or 10 banks of lights went out, many of them behind home plate.

A few minutes into the delay, fans started lighting up their cellphones throughout the stadium.
