Fred Davis Breaks Out the Stank

Portis isn't impressed

There was something stanky about Fred Davis' touchdown reception Saturday night at FedEx Field.

If you were watching the second-year tight end's end zone celebration, you may have noticed Davis' dance moves and wondered, "Where have I seen those moves before?"

Well, longtime readers of NBCWashington.com can say they recognized the move as the Stanky Legg, the very same dance we highlighted back in May as our top move of the summer.

Back then we were hoping it would become all the rage on dance floors at wedding receptions, but we couldn't be happier to see Davis bust the move during an NFL game.

For those who didn't catch our story back in May, we described the Stanky Legg as such:

So how do you do the Stanky? Basically, you know, you're bouncin' all chill and stuff and then, when the moment's right, you hit 'em with a leg stretch. Yeah! But this ain't no regular leg stretch, oh no. You crouch down, you know, and start rollin' the ankle and stuff? Yeah. And that's when it happens. You're gettin' stanky!

And if you really want to show how stank you are, you take your finger and place it right under your nose. That's stank.

So that's pretty much what Davis did Saturday night against the Steelers. He celebrated the eventual game-winning score (his first TD of his career) with a hand behind the head and a wicked leg stretch to the right. It was a thing of beauty. (Click here and go to the 4-minute mark to watch.)

"I don't know, I just did whatever came to mind," Davis told the Sports Bog. "It's been a while since I've been in the end zone, since USC, so I had to come up with something quick. Man, I like getting in there. I'm definitely gonna try to get in there a lot more now. I'll be getting that feeling [again]."

Teammate Phillip Daniels was impressed by Davis' version of the Stanky, saying, "he got real stanky with it.  He did real good with it."

But Clinton Portis is harder to impress, probably because Southeast Jerome is trying to make some copyright claim to the dance. Portis apparently told Davis he rushed through the dance, instead of taking his time with the stank.

Davis, however, said he had the best interest of the team in mind. He didn't want to get fined for excessive celebration.

"I just wanted to hurry and get back," Davis said.

Kudos to Davis for thinking team first, and a bigger congrats on pulling off some incredible end-zone stank.
