Four Washington Capitals Make Olympics Quarterfinals

All four Washington Capitals selected to represent their countries in the Olympics reached the quarterfinal round, meaning each is seeing action in Sochi Wednesday.

In the cases of defenseman John Carlson and forward Martin Erat, they might meet on the ice at noon. Carlson is the lone Caps player on Team USA and scored the team’s first goal of the Olympics. The Czech Republic added Erat late as an injury replacement.

Watch them square off on USA Network at noon or on NBCOlympics.com.

Washington’s star of stars has the same role on his native Russia’s national team, though forward Alex Ovechkin’s coaches are stressing team play in this tournament. They are in action against Finland right now on NBC Sports Network and NBCOlympics.com.

Forward Nicklas Backstrom and Sweden already advanced to the semifinals with a win over Slovenia.
