A basketball coach in Germantown, Md. was arrested after allegations she had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy at the school.
For the last three months she served as an assistant coach for the boy’s varsity basketball team at Seneca Valley High School.
Montgomery County police say she carried on a sexual relationship with a student for several weeks---from the beginning of December until the end of 2009.
“There’s morals and integrity and there’s things that are wrong---and that’s wrong,” said Cheryl Smith, a parent at Seneca Valley High School.
“It is very disturbing to know that someone would look at your child in that way,” said Becky Lewis.
All of the alleged sexual encounters happened off school grounds.
The 15-year-old boy’s parents found sexually explicit text messages on their son’s cell phone. They became suspicious that their son was having a sexual relationship with an adult volunteer and notified school officials.
“We’re glad that parents have taken an interest and are looking at their underage children’s phones and getting involved in their activities,” said Capt. Paul Starks of the Montgomery County Police Department.
“They saw something that looked suspicious and they did the right thing.”
Glad is charged with four counts of sexual abuse and four counts of third degree sex offense.
She was released Friday night after posting a $35,000 bond.
The principal of Seneca Valley High School says Glad was dismissed from her coaching position when the allegations came to light. She was also banned from the school and all of its off-campus activities.
