District of Columbia leaders say they've worked out their differences on how to pay for a new stadium for Major League Soccer's D.C. United.
The D.C. Council approved the stadium deal earlier this month. The city will spend roughly $140 million to acquire the land for the stadium and infrastructure costs and another $40 million on tax credits. The stadium will be built on Buzzard Point in southwest Washington, a neglected peninsula about 2 miles south of the U.S. Capitol.
Mayor Vincent Gray and the D.C. Council had disagreed on where the money for the project would come from. Gray, mayor-elect Muriel Bowser and Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said Wednesday that they've settled on a financing plan. The council will take a final vote on the stadium project next week.
