Grossman at Top of QB Depth Chart

Days away from the first preseason game, the Redskins released their first depth chart.

Penciled in right now at the #1 quarterback spot: Rex Grossman.

Grossman is the first to say the depth chart doesn't mean much this early. However, he will also tell you he'd rather be listed first than second. Grossman will find out Wednesday how much the coaches plan to let the starters play on Friday night against Pittsburgh.

A confident Grossman did share his prediction this year for the Redskins’ chances against the NFC East.  "When its all said and done," Grossman said, "I really feel like this team's going to win the East."

Number two quarterback John Beck is being held out from the team portion of practice because of a sore groin. No timetable has been set for his return.

Speaking at the podium Tuesday, coach Mike Shanahan said the team has been happy with Beck's progress, but wanted to be cautious with him.

"Anytime that somebody's got a sore groin and he can't sprint to his right or sprint to his left at full speed, you got to make sure you don't put him in a situation where he sets himself back a few weeks," Shanahan said about Beck.

Also revealed from the depth chart: Mike Sellers, the second-longest tenured player on the team, is fighting an uphill battle to make the club. Sellers was the starting fullback last year, but now, he's the fourth string tight end.  Newly signed Jabar Gaffney is listed as the starting receiver opposite Santana Moss.
