Choose Your Own United Stadium

MoCo, Loudon or DC? Where's it gonna be?

Won't somebody get D.C. United a home?  Please?

The team's on-again, off-again attempt at getting a stadium built died a little bit once Victor McFarlane sold the team a month or so ago.  McFarlane (as did others) tried for years to get D.C.'s most successful sports franchise a new barn to play in.  RFK wasn't getting renovated.  Poplar Point fell through.  And the last-ditch effort in PG County flopped like an Italian defender.

So with everything up in the air, the team's back to the drawing board and asking fans what they should do.  They released a survey via e-mail to their fans, and published it on their Web site.

The survey asks their opinion on where a new stadium should be located: good ol' D.C., lower Montgomery County (Rockville/Wheaton/Silver Spring) or near Dulles airport in Loudoun County.  Choose wisely, fans!

It goes on to ask fans about how many games they'd attend at various locations and how they got to and from games.  (Designated driver wasn't a choice?)

Officials in Montgomery County and Loudoun County were optimistic, according to the Post.  But they're also realistic in their understanding that finding financing -- especially public financing in this climate -- will be difficult.

Still, the survey indicates the team hasn't given up attempts to find a better place than the dirty, concrete donut that is RFK.  Besides, after all these years, Barra Brava probably have a soft spot in their screaming, chanting hearts for the ol' dump.

Chris Needham used to write Capitol Punishment.  He misses RFK for baseball.
