Bird's Eye View of Snow Venues for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

The venues for the snow events in South Korea are almost ready to host the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The mountains of Pyeongchang will provide the backdrop for more than a dozen cross country skiing and biathlon events.

The Alpensia Sports Park includes two ski jumps – 98 meters and 125 meters high – that have seen plenty have runs in the past two winters.

“So we’ve had thousands of people already test out these venues, come to see the competition, and its gaining a lot of excitement for the Games,” said Nancy Park of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.

Pyeongchang built the snow venues to become a more viable host city. They needed three attempts to win the bid.

“This is a great venue because this venue has been her for a very long time,” Park said. “It’s our symbolic venue. Everyone that wants to know more about the Pyeongchang Games comes here and takes a look at what’s going on.”

Tourists visit Alpensia by the busload, snapping pictures and taking in the scenery.

The mountain cluster for the snow events is almost complete. The roads to get in and out of the venues need more work, organizers said, and thousands of volunteers require training. But plans are ahead of schedule.

“We’re really excited to show people more about what’s going on in Pyeongchang and really build Pyeongchang as a winter sports hub and also make it a great tourist destination for people to come to Korea,” Parks said.
