Are Hot Dogs Sandwiches? Georgetown Soccer Team Celebrates Answer

It is a question that has ignited debate and angst for many years.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary proclaimed this year that a sandwich is defined as “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between,” and that a hot dog is defined as such. The authoritative dictionary made the final declaration in celebration of Memorial Day weekend.

To celebrate the “end” of the debate, the Georgetown men’s soccer team will celebrate the hot dog sandwich at their game on Sept. 10 against the University of Connecticut. All fans who come to the game dressed in a hot dog sandwich costume or any fans names Oscar, Meyer, Frank or Nathan will receive free admission.

Jack the bulldog, Georgetown’s live mascot, will be wearing a new hot dog sandwich costume. There will also be a hot dog sandwich-making station by the concession stand.

During halftime, some fans will participate in a hot dog sandwich catching competition. The university is hoping there will be enough people in hot dog sandwich costumes to set a world record.

If the hot dog as a sandwich question wasn’t enough, fans will also be asked other tough questions.
