Virginia's Republican party plans to re-examine a requirement that says voters have to pledge to support the party's eventual nominee before they can cast ballots in the upcoming presidential primary.
The Virginia GOP's Central Committee will meet Jan. 21 to talk about the new loyalty oath. Under the rule, those who refuse to sign the promise at the polls on March 6 can't participate in the primary.
Virginia voters don't register by party and state law requires open primaries, although voters are not allowed to vote for more than one party in a primary election.
In a Facebook posting, Virginia Republican Party Chairman Pat Mullins said the need for party registration in Virginia is a bigger issue than the loyalty oath.
