Virginia Congressional Race Ranks Among Most Pricey

The race for Virginia's 11th Congressional District is reportedly one of the most expensive races in the state.

Republican challenger Keith Fimian has out-raised Democratic incumbent Gerry Connolly by almost $40,000 in the congressional race, according to the Federal Election Commission.

Fimian's campaign attributes that to its grass-roots effort to get small donors to contribute in the campaign. Bill Allison of the Sunlight Foundation says all of Fimian's small donors could be emblematic.

"A lot more people are incensed and upset about Washington. You know there's high unemployment and a whole host of factors that fuel this kind of giving," Allison says.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Connolly has raised more than $1 million from Political Action Committees, compared to the $156,000 Fimian has brought in from PACs.
