D.C. Council member Tommy Wells joined Council members David Catania and Mary Cheh in calling for Council member Harry Thomas Jr. to step down.
Thomas is accused of spending $300,000 on a luxury SUV, golf, travel and other personal matters. The Ward 5 Democrat is also under federal investigation and could face criminal charges. Thomas has denied wrongdoing, but agreed last week to pay back the District funds.
Wells (D-Ward 6) released a statement that Thomas “clearly diverted” city funds “for unacceptable purposes” and should step down “for the good of our city as well as the integrity of the Council.”
Catania and Cheh had previously asked Thomas to resign.
