Gray Touts Economic Goals in State of District

Mayor wants D.C. to be technology hub

D.C. is in better financial shape than any state, but fiscal discipline will be critically important to maintain that status, Mayor Vincent Gray said Tuesday night.

Gray spent much of his annual State of the District address discussing his economic and fiscal achievements and goals. He touted the growth in the District's reserve fund.

The mayor also said he wants the District to become a technology hub. He plans to travel to China this year to promote the District's expertise in environmentally friendly construction. It would be his first trip abroad as mayor.

Unlike in last year's address, Gray touched on the hiring scandals that marked the early months of his tenure. He said he takes responsibility for those mistakes and has implemented needed reforms.
