Obama to Moderate Meeting With Israeli, Palestinian Leaders

Israeli president says meeting will take place in late September

President Obama will moderate a meeting between the leaders of Israel and Palestine late next month, facilitating a discussion that could lead to renewed peace negotiations between the two embattled nations, the president of Israel said Monday.

Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet in late September, Israeli President Shimon Peres told FOX News. Obama will chair the meeting, Peres said.

There is a "chance" the two nations could decide to reopen negotiations at the meeting, which won't include representatives from Hamas, according to Peres. Obama has called on Israel to stop settlement construction in Palestinian territory, but the Israeli people have resisted Obama's request.

Iran would also likely be a hot-button issue on the table at the meeting, where the three world leaders could discuss whether Iran is a threat to nations other than Israel.
