The Obamas played the part of the typical American tourist family Sunday evening, taking a leisurely night tour of the Washington monuments with extended family members after a week of hard-hitting international policy at U.N. meetings.

President Obama and Michelle Obama were accompanied on the tour by daughers Sasha and Malia, as well as president's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, her husband Konrad Ng, and their daughters Suhaila and Savita. Michelle's mother Marian Robinson also joined the first family on the outing.

The group traveled by motorcade to visit the monuments, stopping first at the Jefferson Memorial. The outing marked the president's first personal visit to the Jefferson, park officials said.

The family then stopped at the Washington Monument, greeting several dozen unexpected tourists.
