Mayor Vincent Gray No Longer Backs Former Campaign Chair

Lorraine Green is at the center of a controversy involving former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown.

Brown says Green and other officials with D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray's campaign officials gave him cash and promised him a city job in exchange for repeated attacks on former Mayor Adrian Fenty on the campaign trai.

Green, who was Gray's campaign chair and is a longtime friend, has denied Brown's claims, which have led to multiple investigations.

Gray said he is withdrawing Green's nomination to chair the Washington Convention and Sports Authority at her request. The mayor said Green has decided to re-establish a business venture she put on hold several years ago.

Green recently retired as an Amtrak executive.
