Maryland senators are expected to continue debating a bill to outlaw smoking in a vehicle with passengers younger than 8.
On Friday, lawmakers amended the bill, changing the age of the passenger that cannot be exposed to smoking in a car from 8 to 16. However, the amendment was overturned when supporters of the bill realized they had voted in error.
Proponents said that it will be easier to limit the ban to children under the age of 8. Children up to 7-years-old are required to ride in car seats, so law enforcement will be able to able to easily identify children under the age of 8.
More amendments are expected on the bill today.
