When it comes to recent fund-raising, Democrat Tim Kaine is well ahead of Republican front-runner George Allen in the race for Virginia’s U.S. Senate seat.

Kaine reported raising about $1.3 million from July through September while Allen raised about $900,000 over the same period.  Allen's closest GOP rival, tea party leader Jamie Radtke, took in $116,000.

For the campaign so far, Allen and Kaine are about even at $3.5 million raised overall, but Kaine declared his candidacy in April while Allen joined the race in January. Radtke raised $370,000.

Reports to be filed with the Federal Election Commission this month will show Kaine beginning October with $2.55 million in the bank to $1.8 million on hand for Allen.  Radtke has not announced her cash-on-hand total.
