Gray, Brown Spar Over Tax Increases

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray's proposal of raising taxes on the wealthy has already met its first roadblock.

Council Chairman Kwame Brown said the budget he’s planning to present to the council will not include the proposed increases.

Gray suggested raising taxes on those who make $200,000 or more, but Brown told the Washington Examiner that the tax increases “are not on the table.”

Mayor Gray’s proposed increases were expected to raise around $35 million for the District.

Brown is scheduled to present his version of the budget on May 25. He said the budget will not include any pension reform legislation.
