Voters head to the polls Tuesday in Maryland, where the gubernatorial primary is getting the bulk of the attention. Some of the candidates made last-minute pushes for support Monday.
In Rockville, Attorney General Doug Gansler said he is confident he will win the Democratic nomination. Recent polls show both state Delegate Heather Mizeur and Gansler trailing front-runner Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, but Gansler said the recent defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Virginia should cast doubt on polls.
"Now the verb is don't get Cantored,” Brown said Friday on WAMU. “So don’t be lulled into complacency with what the polls tell you.”
In the Republican race Anne Arundel County businessman Larry Hogan appears to be leading his rivals -- Harford County Executive David Craig, Delegate Ron George of Annapolis and Charles County businessman Charles Lollar.
"People are really looking for a change of direction in the state," Hogan said.
Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close at 8 p.m.
