A former ANC commissioner pleaded guilty to a federal fraud charge for misusing government funds.
Prosecutors said William Shelton, a former 5B commissioner, used a Wachovia Bank debit card for the Ward 5 ANC to draw more than $28,000 for personal expenses between August 2010 and March 2011.
The access device fraud charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. The parties have agreed 6-12 months and a $20,000 fine would be acceptable.
Shelton previously agreed to repay the money. He resigned from his position as ANC Ward 5B commissioner in August.
