Fenty Event Gets Heated

Supporters of D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and his front-running challenger Council Chairman Vincent Gray almost started fighting at a voting center Monday, WTOP reported.

Fenty was speaking outside the Turkey Thicket Rec Center in northeast Washington when Gray supporters tried to interrupt.

One woman confronted Fenty after being laid off from her D.C. government job. Another Gray supporter complained about another early voting rally Saturday, where police had to be called after Fenty supporters threatened Gray.

The shouting turned confrontational to the point where it seemed like a fight might break out, WTOP reported.

Senior staff for Mayor Fenty moved in to diffuse the situation.

"I think that both campaigns need to make sure that in the process of supporting their candidates, that they do so very civilly," Fenty said.
