Chelsea Clinton Headlining Events for Hillary Clinton

Chelsea Clinton, who last month announced she is expecting a second child, will focus on her mother's plan to expand early childhood education

Making her debut appearance in the 2016 presidential race, Chelsea Clinton pivoted between personal anecdotes and detailed policy points while campaigning for her mother Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire Tuesday ahead of the state's leadoff presidential primary.

Hillary Clinton recently deployed her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and now her daughter, as she seeks to cover more ground and maintain her early lead in an increasingly-narrowing race against rival Bernie Sanders.

The younger Clinton made three campaign stops in New Hampshire on Tuesday and is scheduled to swing through Iowa on Jan. 16. Polls this week show Sanders, a Vermont senator, in the lead in neighboring New Hampshire, and showing strong gains in first-to-vote Iowa.

Speaking in Manchester, Chelsea Clinton touted her mother's plan to enable students to attend public colleges and universities, without taking on loans for tuition, by covering the $350 billion cost over a decade by closing tax loopholes. Sanders' has offered a proposal to provide free tuition at public universities.

"She also, unlike Sen. Sanders, has articulated how she's going to pay for the proposal," Chelsea Clinton said. "Currently, there's a $19 billion gap between what Sen. Sanders has proposed and how he's articulated paying for his proposals. That to me, is troubling."

"I really believe that what my mom has articulated in terms of expanding access to affordable college is the right answer," she said.

Clinton, who recently announced she is pregnant her second child, also described her own upbringing, saying she has tried to follow her parents' example in raising her 15-month-old daughter.

"I know she doesn't really understand what's happening, but I talk to her about the news every day," Chelsea Clinton said. "I talked to her on Sunday evening about why had to be gone for a few days to support her grandmother because it's really important for her future."
