Bowser to Hold Hearings on Soccer Stadium Deal

The D.C. councilmember who could end up deciding the fate of a proposed new soccer stadium for D.C. United will hold two public hearings on the project.

Councilmember Muriel Bowser will hold hearings on Wednesday and Thursday about the stadium deal.

Mayor Vincent Gray has proposed spending $150 million to acquire land and enhance infrastructure for the stadium, which would be located on Buzzard Point in southwest Washington. The team would spend roughly the same amount to build the stadium itself.

Gray lost his bid for re-election in the April Democratic primary to Bowser. She says the hearings will focus on addressing community concerns, which she says hasn't been done so far.

Bowser is running against independent Councilmember David Catania and independent former councilmember Carol Schwartz in the general election.
